EXPANDING VCP NETWORK NAMES NEW LEADER TO LAUNCH STANDALONE MIDDLE SCHOOL
AVIENCE BROWN IS A VCP VETERAN WITH NEARLY A DECADE OF SERVICE TO THE SCHOOL NETWORK

The Victory College Prep School Network has named Avience Brown to be the first principal of the new VCP Middle School (Grades 5 through 8), which will operate as a standalone school alongside the VCP Elementary School and VCP High School for the 2025-2026 academic year. Valerie Miller will continue to serve in her principal role, leading elementary grades, and Chelsea Easter also continues in her principal role, leading high school grades, next year.

Brown’s selection as the third VCP principal follows the network’s thorough search process, which included 120+ resume reviews, 30+ virtual and in-person interviews with nationwide candidates, and the multi-day assessments of four top-flight finalists.

Brown (pictured at right with students at a 2024 Town Hall event) has most recently served as the Assistant Principal of Humanities Instruction for VCP middle and high school grades. She has been a part of the VCP team for nearly a decade, also serving as an ELA teacher and the Chair of the English Department for middle school and high school grades. She has also been named an Emerging Leaders Fellow by The Mind Trust and earned a Black Excellence in Education Award in 2020. Her degrees include a bachelor of arts in English literature and education studies from DePauw University and a master of teaching from Marian University.

HIRE IS KEY TO NETWORK EXPANSION PLAN
The school network’s move to launch a standalone middle school is part of a broader expansion plan to move to a three-school two-campus model. The VCP Middle School, led by Brown, and VCP Elementary School, led by Miller, will continue to hold classes at the VCP Sloan Avenue Campus. The VCP High School, led by Easter, will operate at the new VCP Bethel Avenue Campus, starting in 2025-2026.
