An important part of preparing students for college is helping them understand the many options available and creating excitement about what’s possible for each student based on their unique abilities and experiences.
College Go! Week in the VCP 7-12 School is a key initiative in helping our students become college-ready. 

COLLEGE GO! WEEK 

September 26 – 30

All Grade 7 thru 12 classrooms

During College Go! Week, students participate in different daily activities about attending college based:

MY PATH MONDAY
Students will learn about Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and hear from representatives of Howard University. VCP alumni will also appear in videos about the importance of applying to college and what it is like to transition into college. VCP teachers will share their personal experiences of making their college choice.

TURN UP TUESDAY
Students will learn about large public 4-year universities in Indiana and nationwide, hearing from Indiana University and University of Louisville representatives. Grade 12 students also complete their first college applications of the year. VCP teachers will share the clubs, sports, and activities they enjoyed during their college years.

WE LIVIN’ WEDNESDAY
Students will learn about smaller private universities, like DePauw University in Indiana. Grade 12 students will complete their second college application of the week to an institution of their choosing. VCP teachers will share about experiences living in college dorms and apartments.

THRU IT THURSDAY
Students will learn about local 2-year community college programs, like Ivy Tech Community College in Indiana, and the Grade 12 college application process continues for the third day. VCP teachers will talk about the biggest challenges they had to work through to be successful in college.

FROM IT FRIDAY
Students will learn about college savings plans and scholarships, and Grade 12 students will participate in an internship program workplace experience to grow their college and career readiness skills. VCP teachers will share about the college degrees they earned and the skills they developed through those programs.
